21 Fun and Interesting Facts about Breaking Bad



Walt & Jesse's Blue Meth is actually Rock Candy. 

Showtime, TNT, FOX, and HBO passed on the show. AMC clearly saw something they didn't and made it a hit. 

Cranston is a joker. During a Reddit AMA (Reddit ), Aaron Paul revealed Bryan once "squirted me with a dildo-shaped squirt gun." 

Tio Salamanca was supposed to be the "Big Bad" of Season 3, but after seeing Giancarlo's work and how well he clicked with the cast, Gus became the major villian. 

Sorry, but Los Pollos Hermanos (translated means The Brothers Chickens) doesn't exist. The building, which is in Albuquerque, is actually a Twisters Restaurant. 

AMC crossover alert! As an "easter egg" to "Breaking Bad" fans. Blue Sky was seen in an episode of "The Walking Dead" which airs on the same network. 

John Cusack and Matthew Broderick (glad none of them took the part because I can't picture the guy from Room 1408 and the guy from Ferris Bueller playing the part of Walter White)  turned down the role of Walter White. After Vince Gilligan showed AMC execs Bryan Cranston's work on an episode of "The X-Files" he wrote, thery were sold. 

Aaron got a concussion while filming a fight scene with raymond cruz, who played Tuco. "The next thing I knew I guess I blacked out and I woke up to a flashlight in our eyes and it was our medic," says Paul. 

Originally, Walt was directly responsible for Jane's death. The first script called for him to push her head back so she would choke. In the final version he accidentally knocks her on her back and then does nothing as she chokes.

Gus Fring speaks fluent spanish on the show, actor Giancarlo Esposito isn't Hispanic he's actually Italian. "I was blessed enough to get a coach out there who is really lovely," explains the actor. 


Dean Norris wanted to get killed off in the first half of the final season so that he would work on a comedy pilot. Vince's response: "I need you, what else am I going to write about in the last eight?" 


Bryan Cranston insisted on wearing tighty-whities all the time. Creator Vince Gilligan says the actor wanted Walt to wear "The Most Pathetic Thing" possible. 

Bryan was nude on the final day of filming. "He just turns around and starts walking away, and he's naked" explains Aaron Paul. "He had pulled down his pants, anythimg he could have the opportunity to show me his ass."

"I spent a lot of time with former "Meth" addicts and people that were using at the moment, I saw a darker side to people that I've never witnessed before." - Aaron Paul.

Jesse was originally suppose to die at the end of Season 1, but after seeing Aaron's performance, Vince Gilligan changed his mind. "My career would be over," Paul says. "I would be a sobbing mess watching week to week."

The show was originally set in Riverside, California. It was moved to new Mexico in order to take advantage of the state's "substantial" tax rebate for film and television production.

Anna Gunn was battling a mystery illness during filming. "I was actually ill while I was filming the show and it affected my weight," she says. "They game me cortisone and I puffed up and gained weight. Now I'm better, Thank God."

It only took one take for Bryan to successfully throw the pizza on the roof of Walter's house and have it land right side up. 

The flashback scene that began the epic "ozymandias" episode was the last scene ever shot for the show. 

Mike Ehrmantraut's part in the series was supposed to be smaller. He was introduced as a cleaner for Jane's body after the actor who played Saul Goodman, Bob Odenkirk wasn't available to film. 

After filming wrapped, Bryan got a tattoo of the show's logo on one of his fingers. "Every once in a while I catch a glimpse of it and I see that logo from 'Breaking Bad' and it makes me smile." he says.
